The “Sole” of a multidisciplinary artist.
Benjy Rose is a Writer/Producer/Director and multidisciplinary artist who has always been interested and curious about the intersection of culture and community. Having grown up adopted and of mixed ethnicity in a sundown town, Rose as an adult found himself exploring many facets of cultural identity. Through his work on stage as a poet and actor he has performed in numerous productions from August Wilson’s Two Trains Running to Susan Lori-Parks Top Dog Underdog. As a Telly and 48hr film festival award winning videographer and filmmaker he has also received grant support for his photography and feature length documentary work in midwest America. His screenplay “Lion of Judah” received an Official Selection in the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards and he has produced and directed two feature length documentaries in the last three years.
Working as a one man production unit, Rose combines his ability to make subjects at ease and experience in all aspects of production to gain access to communities where large crews potentially create limitations in accessing authentic original content. Rose is now aiming his lens at international subject matter at a time where understanding and celebration of our commonalities and differences is needed more than ever. His current project, Checking the “Other” Box is a documentary sharing the stories and perspectives of individuals from across the globe who identify as having more than one ethnicity.
